Technical Overview of the SWF5B-FK-01 Encoder

The SWF5B-FK-01 is a wire draw displacement converter designed to transform linear cable movement into rotary encoder input. The measuring cable is wound onto a precision drum and held under constant tension by a spring drive, while the drum moves axially on a spindle so that the cable rewinds wrap for wrap in a helical groove. This construction supports directly proportional conversion of linear travel into shaft rotation and helps maintain stable measurement behavior in industrial applications.

In this coded version, the measuring range is 5 m and the order code indicates the standard bellows arrangement at the cable entry. The nominal drum circumference is 333 mm. The housing is made of anodized aluminium, the spring housing is plastic, and the measuring cable is a highly flexible stranded stainless-steel wire. For the 5 m version, the cable diameter is 1.3 mm.

Industrial Integration Considerations

For retrofit work, the most important integration point is not only the converter body size but also the installation geometry of the cable path. The datasheet states that the cable should be extracted downward or sideways and must be pulled rectilinearly relative to the housing, with no lateral deflection admitted. In practical field work, this means the mounting direction and cable path must be preserved to avoid side loading, uneven winding, or premature wear.

The 5 m version is also the lightest and fastest in the current group. The table gives a mass of 3 kg, maximum cable speed of 12 m/s, and maximum cable acceleration of 70 m/s² at 20 °C. These values make this variant particularly suitable where shorter travel and relatively dynamic motion need to be combined with stable cable tension and reproducible drum winding.

Custom Compatible Encoder Solution

A custom compatible encoder solution for SWF5B-FK-01 should focus on five engineering points: 5 m measuring range continuity, direct rotary coupling to the mounted encoder, bellows-protected cable entry, rectilinear cable extraction, and preservation of the original encoder mounting face. This matters because the practical success of a replacement depends not only on nominal travel length, but also on whether the cable path, spring return behavior, and encoder-side installation logic remain aligned with the original system.

The platform is designed to work with compatible digital, incremental, and analogue encoder families using 58 mm synchro flanges, and can also be supplied as a separate converter unit on request. Where the original installation uses accessory elements such as a deflection roller, prolongator, brush case, or protective hard coating, those configuration details should be reviewed during engineering matching so the final solution remains suitable for the field environment.
